Mixed media is an art form that combines two or more different materials or artistic techniques in a single artwork.
Instead of using only one medium—like paint or pencil—mixed media artists layer and blend materials such as paint, drawing tools, collage, photography, found objects, fabric, text, or digital elements to create depth, texture, and meaning.
Common Mixed Media Materials
Paint (acrylic, watercolor, ink)
Drawing tools (pencil, charcoal, pastel)
Paper, magazine images, or photographs
Fabric, thread, or textiles
Found objects
Digital or printed elements
Why Artists Use Mixed Media
To explore creativity and experimentation
To add texture, layers, and visual interest
To express complex ideas or emotions
To break traditional boundaries of art-making
